World Cup of Hockey 2016 First Impression

Maybe I'm born with it, maybe I just love international play. Watching sports battles between countries brings the best in all of us. The same is with the World Cup of Hockey. I didn't see the first games of Finland v Sweden and Team Europe v Team North America but I did watch USA v Canada today and by golly it was very fun to watch the whole way through. I mean of course US v Canada is always fun to watch but hey, I can say what I want.

For future posts, don't expect much. I'll occasionally post when it's necessary, but for now, SI probably won't post every day because of school

Thanks again and here's to my first anniversary of this blog!

Dallas Stars: Stanley Cup Contenders?

The Dallas stars, led by Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin, have made a name for themselves in the first portion of the year. Their overall team play has been on point and it doesn't look like it's stopping there. The team has been dominating teams that no one would've thought they'd beat after last year's season.
The Dallas Stars have started out at 10-3-0, leading the Central division. The Central has been known to house the best teams in the league. At least 6 out of 7 teams so far have a positive record this season. They are definitely the best division in the league no doubt. The only team who has a negative record is the Colorado Avalanche, (4-7-1). The 5th place team (Nashville Predators), are 7-2-2, if that doesn't prove how good this division is, i don't know.
Anyway, the Stars are led be Jamie Benn (26), and Tyler Seguin (23). Benn is leading the league in points, also tied with Seguin (Benn: 10g, 10a, 20p, 13gp; Seguin 8g 12a 20p, 13gp). Jonas Klingberg has been a subject of discussion after he signed the 7 year deal in the summer, but he proved it was worth it. He has 2 goals and 11 assists in 13 games played. Jonas Klingberg is only 23, so he still has time to turn into Jonas Lidstrom. The Stars have 3 PPG players, the most of any team in the league.
Their powerplay is best in the league with 29.5% as of 11/5/2015. Makes sense when the top 2 guys tally up 18 goals and 40 points.

DANK MEMES

This blog is a little off topic, as I have nothing interesting to post today.

dank memes
dank mēm/
noun
plural noun: dank memes
  1. an element of a culture or system of behavior that may be considered to be passed from one individual to another by nongenetic means, especially imitation.
    • humorous images, videos, pieces of text, etc. that are copied (often with slight variations) and spread rapidly by Internet users.

Dank memes are sweeping the nation and are loved by all. From pepes to Squidward, to doge, and grumpy cat, many memes are well known. It sometimes makes no sense, but when they're good, they're good. Memes can be anything, Leo Dicaprio was a meme, your mom........., andything can be a meme.

Memes are the hot new thing. Websites like r/reddit, Ifunny:), facebook, and Twitter are all about memes. But that ain't it. They're meant to be stupid, if you're asking. Here's a couple examples to show you how dumb the can be:

See what I mean? Memes are awesome. I'll have a sports related post next time. If you sneezed while reading this bless you. Peace out.

Josh DONGERson wins it for the Jays

The Jays just got back to .500 after a 2-0 start (Although it was against the Tampa Bay Rays). A 4-2 win against the New York Yankees did just the trick. It was all thanks to Josh Donaldson, whom from now on, I'll call him Josh Dongerson as previously mention in the title. He's a beast. I'm shocked we had a losing record going into the game because we have Joey Bats, Tulo, Edwin Encarnacion, Dongerson, Stroman, and Estrada. But win some - lose some I guess. This puts us at 3-1 in our last 4 games. Yes 2-4 is an awful record to start 6 games, unlike the Cubs who are 8-1 but whatever. Tank. Tank. Tank. Tank. Tank. Tank. Frank the Tank. Anyway, Stroman played very nice that game. (8 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ERA, 3 K) and Josh Donaldson hit a 3 run home run that put the Jays up 3-2 and Tulo hit another RBI in making it 4-2, the eventual final score.

R.A. Dickey is supposed to start for the Blue Jays against Boston. Jesus, no matter what league, my team competes tightly against Boston. But this time I don't want a 6-1 loss. I want a win from Dickey. Though is ERA is above 8. He's 1-1 which is just fine.

Detroit v Tampa Series Preview

Well, it's that time of the year again. Playoffs. And once again, Detroit faces Tampa Bay for Round 1, this time without Steven Stamkos due to injury. Datsyuk is also in his last year in his tenure with the NHL. Both teams are struggling as of late. Detroit can't seem to score any amount of goals whatsoever and Tampa lost their leading goal scorer. Jimmy Howard of Detroit has been a big story for them as he played really well during the late stages of the season. Nikita Kucherov hit the 30-goal landmark that he almost acquired last season (29).

Detroit (41-30-11) (93 points; 3rd Atlantic) V. Tampa (46-31-5) (97 points; 2nd Atlantic).

Last year, the Detroit/Tampa series was heated. Many fights between the two teams during the 7 game series. Detroit had the 3-2 lead, but Tampa won 2 straight to win the series in 7. Petr Mrazek made his playoff debut and played rather well despite the 3-4 record. He had a 2.11 GAA with a .925 SV% and 2 Shutouts. He made the one spectacular save with the paddle, which made highlight reels for the longest time.

Tampa lost Steven Stamkos due to a blood clot in his arm and is out for 1-3 month(s). Nikita Kucherov (30-36-66) led his team in points. Tyler Johnson has modeled inconsistency throughout the season. (14-24-38; 29-43-72).

The teams are still looking for an Eastern Conference Stanley Cup this year instead of Chicago and LA. The series starts Wednesday, April 13.

Chicago Cubs: KEEP THAT STREAK ALIVE!!!!!!

Let's face it, the Chicago Cubs have the worst luck in sports history when it comes to the playoffs. They have a world series drought of 100+ years, and it's not going anywhere, or so we thought. If you didn't already know, the Chicago Cubs made it to the NLCS and got swept by the New York Mets      4-0. In my opinion though, it could've been worse seeing that they would've had to play the Kansas City Royals, and my god, would've been relocated, because they're just that good.
Let's start off with their main man at 1B, Anthony Rizzo. At 26 years old, he's making a name for himself early in his career (4 seasons). He's coming off a great year (160 GP, 31 HR, 101 RBI) and his stats seem to keep on improving from previous years. Maybe he might hit 50 HR? 150 RBI? Although these are guesses, he still has a long way to go before he can bat like Michael Cabrera. But to think a 6th round pick in 2007 can play like this? That's amazing. He's like a younger Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg (Both Detroit Red Wings,  (NHL)) or Henrik Lunquist (New York Rangers (NHL)). They all turned out amazing. I bet the Cubs want him to hit the .300 mark or maybe the batting title for the NL.
Their pitching has been phenomenal, their main man, Jake Arrieta, is superb. (22-6 1, 77 ERA, .86 WHIP). The main reason why they almost hit a 100+ win season has to go to these two guys.
I do hate Cubs fans, with a passion, but they are very close to ending that drought that they have had for 100+ years, and if not, then go Detroit Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Detroit can move on to a Quarter-Century of Consistency Tonight

Omg, I was so intensified into last night's game in the Joe. I was on my fight during the last 2 minutes. I realize the steaks. No team in Detroit wants the streak, and be the team to end the streak. But it doesn't look like it will end just yet. A win in the TD Garden give the Detroit Red Wings their 25th consecutive Playoff birth. I mean to think that I've never known what it's like to have my NHL team miss the playoffs, it's extraordinary. Even though I'm almost 17, it's still special. It gives a sense of what it took from Ken Holland, Mike Babcock, Steve Yzerman, Vlad Konstantinov, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Kronwall, and Lidstrom, to previous players and GM's to get to this level.

Now the issue with Pavel Datsyuk. It's a frightening thought to think of the Detroit Red Wings without a Pavel Datsyuk is next year. But it also might not come to pass. If Datsyuk retires, he leaves Detroit with a 7.5$ million cap hit, which doesn't seem like it would be like a thing Datsyuk would do. Lose Datsyuk, pay big price. If Datsyuk stays, it gives another chance at possibly 26 straight, and after that, we'll see if he wants to stay here, or play in the KHL.

After keeping close tabs on one another for several weeks, neither the Detroit Red Wings nor the Boston Bruins need to resort to scoreboard-watching in their next game. When the Atlantic Division members face off Thursday night in Boston, one can secure a playoff spot and the other essentially needs to win for a shot to get there. The penultimate regular-season game for both teams carries enormous implications for each, especially for the Bruins. Two points behind the Red Wings for third in the division, Boston (41-30-9) would have a tough time earning a wild-card berth over Philadelphia if it loses.Detroit did the Bruins somewhat of a favor with Wednesday's 3-0 win over the Flyers, keeping Philadelphia tied with Boston with 91 points. The Flyers hold a game in hand, however, and host last-place Toronto on Thursday.Boston, which has lost eight of 10 since March 15, concludes the regular season at home against Ottawa on Saturday."You have to be confident and believe," center Patrice Bergeron told the Bruins' official website. "But at the same time there's no more chances here. This is our last chance and we have to seize it and go out there and do it."

Detroit (41-28-11) greatly helped its own cause with Wednesday's result. It can clinch a top-three finish in the Atlantic and extend its playoff streak to 25 seasons with a win of any kind over Boston.
Though they had an eight-game run with at least one power play goal end by going 0 for 4, the Red Wings excelled on the penalty kill to record their third straight win and seventh in 10 games. They staved off four Philadelphia chances and received a huge short-handed breakaway goal from rookie Andreas Athanasiou to take a 2-0 lead late in the second period."From day one, we've had to grind out wins. Everything's been close," coach Jeff Blashill said. "We've never been truly comfortable in a playoff spot. At times, we've been on the outside looking in."

Detroit also got another sharp performance from a resurgent Jimmy Howard, who stopped 30 shots for his first shutout since the season opener. He's yielded four goals over the winning streak."I've got to give a lot of credit to the guys in front of me, guys sacrificing their bodies the last three games," he said. "As a goalie when you see guys doing that it makes your job that much more enjoyable and you want to come up with big saves for the guys."Howard could draw another start with Petr Mrazek having struggled both down the stretch and in the season series. Mrazek hasn't played since being pulled after allowing two quick goals at Montreal on March 29 and owns a 4.69 goals-against average over his last five appearances. Mrazek has allowed 11 in three 2015-16 meetings with Boston, losing the first two and making just 17 saves in a 6-5 home win on Feb. 14 that halted Detroit's six-game series skid.

Tuukka Rask is coming off a 27-save effort in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss to Carolina, in which the Bruins salvaged an important point on Loui Eriksson's tying goal in the third period.
Eriksson has three goals and four assists over a six-game point streak against Detroit, while Bergeron has four goals over his last five games.
