NHL 16 Early Review

This may be a sports blog but, but that also counts the EA NHL, Madden, NBA Live, and FIFA games as well. So for today's post, I'll be reviewing the brand new game, NHL 16, released on Xbox One and PS4 on September 15, 2015. Note that I have a Xbox One, so any controls i mention will be on that platform, but they're same on each, so it should be easy to translate.

At first, this game looks amazing, with the three commentators Eddie Olcyzk, Doc Emerick, and Ray Fararro, providing commentary that's right 70% of the time. Mostly, it occurs when there's a save and Olcyzk says its easy although it's anything but. When they're in the press-box watching the before game warmup sequence, they've upgraded it from last year because it was obviously filmed in a green screen. The in game pop-ups like the NHL on NBC signs make it look just like real life. I was asked by a co worker which game I was watching, and I replied "IT AIN'T NO GAME BOY!". Now, that was a bit much I know, but I don't care, it was funny. Anyways, overall, based on appearance, I'd give it a 9. Now let's move on to the most important part of a game in my opinion, the A.I., and no not Cortana, this is NHL, not Halo, but I do like me some Halo.

The game plays extraordinarily well compared to it's "lack-luster" predecessor, NHL 15. I'll admit, the passing in this game is EXTREMELY hard. My favorite team is the Detroit Red Wings, and Pavel Datsyuk, a 93 overall center should be able to pass it up the boards to an 87 Tomas "Tuna" Tatar. But what happens is it bounces up the boards and Tatar either can't catch it and it's a turnover, or Tatar gets killed and Abdelkader has to fight some guy. But the cycling down low in the offensive zone is almost perfect which make my rating for A.I., a 8.

Finally, Game Depth, or game modes. Comapred to NHL 15, NHL 16 has 300% more game modes. Now obviously HUT is the game mode EA focuses on, and sadly, my YouTube career is effected by that. It's mainly because it's the only one that makes them money. Now you have the basic game modes with, Play Now, Season, Be a Pro, and Playoff mode, but they've finally had the right sense of mind to add a brand new Be a GM, and finally, for God's sake, EASHL..... EASHL is hands down my favorite gamemode and so many others. It's probably better than HUT but that's all an opinion. For this, I will rate a 7.

This game plays very well, looks good and is fun to play so all-in-all, i will rate this game an 8/10.
Thank you and I will see you in the next post. (probably tomorrow, sorry for the ADHD sidetracks)
