The 1st week of the NHL regular season is the books and a bit of a surprise coming from both conferences. Let's dive right into it, no intro.
Let''s start with the standings:
Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings, Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, Ottawa Senators, Buffalo Sabres, Toronto Maple Laughs, and the Boston Bruins in the Atlantic Division.
New York Rangers, New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals, Carolina Hurricanes, Pittsburgh Penguins, New Jersey Devils, and the Columbus Blue Jackets in the Metropolitan Division.
Nashville Predators, Winnipeg Jets, Minnesota Wild, Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues, and the Colorado Avalanche in the Central Division.
Vancouver Canucks, San Jose Sharks, Arizona Coyotes, Calgary Flames, Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers, and the LA Kings in the Pacific Division.
Rookies have been the "prime real estate" for teams since 1917, and no shortage of rookies in the class of 2016. Connor Mcdavid, (1st overall, 2015, Edmonton Oilers) has only tallied 1g, 0a, 1p in just 3 games, which isn't bad but I'm sure Edmonton expected 80 points by now. Dylan Larkin, (15th overall, 2014, Detroit Red Wings), has played exceptionally well on a line with Justin Abdelkader, and Henrik Zetterberg tallying 1g, 3a, and 4p in 3 games and leads rookies in points, assists, and +/-. Jack Eichel, (2nd overall, 2015, Buffalo Sabres) has 2g, 0a, and 2p in just 3 games which is still, amazing for an 18 year old. He stands tall with the 18 year old Mcdavid, 19 year old Larkin, and 19 year old Robbi Fabbri, whom i wont be talking about, sadly.
Surprising teams pop up every year in sports, whether they're bad or good. The Arizona Coyotes are 2-0-0 so far, beating a team like the Pittsburgh Penguins at home after having the 3rd overall pick last year. The Pittsburgh Penguins were thought to be better whilst acquiring Phil "The Thrill" Kessel, but they're 0-3-0 to start. The LA Kings after their dynasty from 2010-2014 of 2 Stanley Cups, have started 0-3-0. And finally the Detroit Red Wings have started 3-0-0, Abdelkader has 4 goals in 3 games, Larkin with 4 points in 3 games and Zetterberg with 7 points in 3 games, leading the league. It may be the first week but that's my analysis, Adieu.
