The NHL has been known by all for it's brutality in fights, hits, and all out warfare. Some say it should stay that way, while the white hipsters of America and Brendan Shanahan have tried to make it less enjoyable for the fans. It's fair to say that the past 5 GM meetings have ruined the sport like Gary Bettman wanted to. These days, they give out hearings and fine and suspend players for stuff that's been done for over 120 years.
When I say wimpy, I don't mean girly like the NBA, I mean c'mon. If I wanted to watch a bunch of girls running around I would've watched either figure skating or women's gymnastics. I say wimpy as more controlled like the US government. Clearly you, the reader, can tell that this upsets me. The rule of having the linesmen step in to break up a fight, that's preposterous. Take a player like Scott Stevens, (New Jersey Devils, 1982-2004), he made a career off of these types of hits, and the fans loved him. Obviously the hit on Eric Lindros that ended his career and kept him out of the HoF was his greatest achievement. A bunch of non hockey fans payed to see Scott Stevens, and it brought new fame to the greatest sport in the world, hockey. Nowadays, you'd barely see anyone trying to hit one another, unless you're Niklas Kronwall, Alexi Emelin, Zdeno Chara, or Dustin Byfuglien. And still you'd barely get away with.
Let's go back to the first hit that made me realize that this world is growing soft.April 27, 2015. Niklas Kronwall delivered his trademark, The Kronwall, on Nikita Kucherov. Kucherov wasn't hurt and still finished the game, but Kronwall was suspended Game 7 of the series, which could've been the reason why they lost. The main reason he was suspended, was because his feet weren't on the ice. https://youtu.be/WgSF-AQm4tY Take his hit against Marin Havlat a couple years ago. https://youtu.be/pvhWGKuqL3w. There was no suspension, and Havlat was taken out of the game.
