Petr Mrazek: Franchise Goalie of the Future for Detroit?

Oh my god, I was hoping last night for the Detroit-Sens Game to have it end up with a second straight shutout for Mrazek, which would've made it 5 on the year, a career record. But in 2012 when we drafted him, Red Wing fans knew nothing about the kid, didn't even expect him to be Chris Osgood, Manny Legace, Jimmy Howard, or even Dominik Hasek good, but Petr is 1st in GAA and 1st in SV%. (1.94 GAA, .934%) His record is very impressive also. (21-10-4) It's apparent that Petr Mrazek has officially pushed out Jimmy Howard for the starting goaltender job. Howard stats aren't as good, but that's what happens when a goalie ages into mid- 30's. (7-8-4, 2.89 GAA, .904%)

If you recall back to my Connor Hellebuyck and John Gibson post, I talked about how ideal they are to their franchises. I somehow forgot about my own starting goalie, Petr Mrazek, 23 years old, compared to Gibson, 22, and Hellebuyck, 22. Some of the credit does go to the stellar play of our defensive core, Kronwall, Green, Ericsson, Dekeyser, Kindl, Smith, Marchenko, and Quincey. And we wait for Vili Saarajarvi, and Xavier Ouellet to pop up in their NHL debuts. Detroit has always been #1 for developing their prospects. Pavel Datsyuk was drafted 6th round, Henrik Zetterberg in the 6th, Niklas Kronwall in the 6th, Petr Mrazek in the 5th, Gustav Nyquist in the 4th, and Darren Helm in the 5th. In Detroit, you'll never know who has the potential to have 100+ point seasons. Anthony Mantha, Tyler Bertuzzi, Zachary Nastasiuk, Evgeny Svechnikov, Vili Saarajarvi, Xavier Ouellet, Adam Marsh, and Andreas Athanasiou all have good potential to do such things

Last year, Petr Mrazek had a season of (16-9-2, 2.38 GAA, .918 SV%), and obvious backup for when both Jimmy Howard and Jonas Gustavsson were both hurt. He came in and played like a Vezina Trophy winner, now, it looks like he could possibly win it at the very impressive age of 23.
